This International Standard specifies the building dimensions for the space needed to install escalators,
as shown in figure 1.
It applies to escalators with a maximum nominal speed of 0,5 m/s, an inclination angle of 30° or 35° and
a rise from 2 m to 6 m. The machine room is a part of the truss.
This International Standard does not apply to
— certain escalators which are subject to special operational conditions, for which other design
dimensions may be required (mainly in public traffic systems);
— special designs like spiral escalators, combinations of escalators and passenger conveyors, etc.
The design of escalators need not correspond to figure 1; only those dimensions indicated shall
be observed.
