EU-kommissionen har genom sitt mandat M/486 "Mandate for programming and standardization addressed to the European standardization bodies in the field of urban rail" gett de europeiska standardiseringsorganisationerna i uppdrag att arbeta fram standarder inom järnvägsspår.
