The document specifies rules for dictating of texts in office applications. Standardized implementation supports the communication between author and transcriptionist. Besides the rules for dictating, the new version of DIN 5009 contains information on names of characters and spelling. As the correct spelling, for instance of names, has increased its importance due to growing cultural diversity, the standard provides a new spelling alphabet. The standard has been developed by the DIN working committee NA 043-03-01 AA "Word and information processing for office applications".
