Oförstörande provning

Genom oförstörande provning kan kvalitetskrav kontrolleras vid tillverkning,          installation och reparation - utan att deformera eller förstöra produkten. Det är vanligt      att oförstörande provning också används för att leta efter sprickor eller andra skador          på utrustning som är i drift. Metoderna används flitigt inom kärnkraft och tryckkärl som    ställer höga krav på säkerhet och kvalitet. Men det blir allt vanligare att de även        tillämpas inom andra områden för att minimera kassationer.

Med oförstörande provning menas oförstörande provningsmetoder som exempelvis röntgen, ultraljud och olika metoder för ytkontroll. Det är ofta ett kostnadseffektivt sätt 
att säkerställa utformning av olika produkter.

Kommittén är ett forum för experter inom området. De är med och aktivt påverkar 
innehåll och riktlinjer för framtida standarder, både globalt och nationellt. Standarderna syftar till att tillförsäkra säkra anläggningar genom kontroll av produkter innan de
levereras och återkommande kontroller under drift. De omfattar såväl krav på utbildning och examinering av kontrollpersonal som provningsmetoder och kvalitetsklasser för produkter. Arbetet resulterar i standarder som gör det möjligt att säkerställa att
produkter är fria från inre fel som sprickor och andra skadliga håligheter. Det skapar
därmed förutsättningar för säkra anläggningar.

Standarderna beskriver oförstörande provning av metalliska material som plåt, stång, smiden och gjutgods liksom svetsade och på annat sätt sammanfogade konstruktioner.
De ger också konstruktörer förslag på kvalitetskrav som baseras på kvalitetsklasser inom
till exempel svetsningsområdet.
