Safety of robots in personal care
High priority has been given to the development of a safety standard for service robots in personal care applications. A working group (WG 7) has the task of developing a standard for robots in personal care, starting with non-medical applications.
For the subsequent standard on medical applications, the working group needs to make sure that it will be a complement to existing standards for medical devices and equipment for disabled people.
Parameters that are discussed for sorting out these issues are, amongst others, degree of autonomy, safeguarding, and object of operation. A distinction from non personal applications was found to be whether a human or a workpiece is the point of operation.
