Social Events
Delegates and accompanying persons are invited to participate in the events detailed below:
Monday 23 September • Welcome reception
The Welcome Reception will take place at the City Conference Centre, Norra Latin.
Tuesday 24 September • Stockholm City Hall reception
The reception is hosted by the City of Stockholm and the County Council at Stockholm City
Hall, the venue for the Nobel Prize dinner. A buffet dinner will be served followed by a guided
tour of the building.
Thursday 26 September • Gala Dinner

The Gala Dinner will be held at the Vasa museum, one of Stockholm’s main attractions. Here you can enjoy
a piece of Swedish history. The Royal warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage inside Stockholm harbour,
in 1628. After 333 years under water, she was raised from her watery grave in 1961, and after several years of
restoration she has now been moved to her final resting-place in this spectacular museum. The evening will
begin with a guided tour followed by a dinner with entertainment.
Tour Programme for Accompanying Persons
In order to make it more convenient for accompanying persons to enjoy their stay in Stockholm, a number of tours are being organized
for them. Although tours can be booked at the ISO registration/information desk at the City Conference Centre, Norra Latin upon arrival
(depending on availability), it is highly recommended to book in advance by completing the relevant part of the pre-registration form.
Payment is required to secure all tour reservations and must be in SEK (see form for details).
All guided tours are conducted in English.
Confirmation of tour reservations will be e-mailed or faxed to delegates shortly after receipt of the pre-registration form and the
relevant payment.
Tuesday 24 September • A Walk in Gamla Stan (the Old Town) (10:00–12:00)
A guided walk through Gamla Stan, the heart of Stockholm. This is the island on which Stockholm was originally built at the beginning
of the 13th century. Stroll down the narrow lanes and discover breathtaking sights and fascinating buildings. The two most dominant
buildings in Gamla Stan are the Stockholm Cathedral, built in 1267 and therefore the oldest church in Stockholm, and the Royal
Palace where the King and Queen still hold their official receptions and banquets. The tour starts in Gamla Stan at Slottsbacken, by
the Obelisk.
Price per person: SEK 350
Wednesday 25 September • Gripsholm Castle (09:00–15:00)
A whole day’s excursion by bus to the magnificently preserved town of Mariefred, on lake Mälaren. The most notable sight in the
town is Gripsholm Castle, dating from the 1530s, situated on a headland and surrounded by a beautiful cared-for park. Although the
castle is famous for its huge collection of portraits, there is also a theatre within its thick walls, built in the 18th century by King
Gustav III. After lunch at a local inn, you can walk through the picturesque town. The bus will pick you up outside Norra Latin,
the congress venue at 09:00.
Price per person: SEK 850
Thursday 26 September • Drottningholm Palace Tour (09:00–12:30)

Drottningholm Palace, just outside Stockholm, dates from the 17th
century and is modelled on Versailles. Today, the palace, with its
magnificent park, is the Royal Family’s residence. The Court Theatre
is one of the oldest in the world still in use. It is the only theatre that
uses the original stage scenery from the 18th century. The bus will
pick you up outside Norra Latin, the congress venue at 09:00.
Price per person: SEK 560
